Naru stretched and looked at Ever with almost a look of wonder. She meowed.

Ever held out her hand to the feline quietly, interested. She hadn't left the labs in years.

The cat slowly approached and sniffed. I was surprised. For a trained killer, she knew how to treat cats.
Naru seemed to think for a moment, then rubbed her face against Ever's outstretched arm.

Ever smiled and scratched its head gently. She blinked her eyes and they flashed. "Mrow?" She said, using her translator to speak with the cat.

(She asked its name)

The cat looked startled.
"You speak our tongue, young human? How?"
(Oh god I had fun figuring out how a cat would talk.)

Ever smiled as she picked it up and stroked its head. "I haven't left this lab for a while," I replied. "I have many unique things with me that help. So what's your name?"

"I go by many names. My most recent is Naru."

She was communicating with my cat! Maybe there was another reason she was picked.

Ever smiled and set her down. "I have to go, the judging will start in five minutes. Goodbye Naru," She said before standing and throwing her used needle away,

Naru paused.
"I shall remain with my companion human for now. From your statements, these tests sound dangerous. I must accompany My companion through this hard time."
Naru almost turned to go, but said before going, "By the way, My companion kept muttering in it's sleep about 'One of the nine.' I am scared for it's sanity. Don't push it too hard."
And with that, Naru leapt away through the crowd moving to the test chambers.

Ever walked to the scientists' hall as the possibilities went to their rooms for the beginning test, each to an individual room and Ever sighed with nostalgia. Ah, the first test...

I entered my room, Naru in tow. Naru wore a look of sad concern on her face.

Ever tapped the microphones hooked into each room. "Good morning. Welcome to your first test of many. In this room you will find a cot in the corner, some provisions and a small restroom. I'll see you in a few days," She said, her voice echoing around the entire facility.

The lights shut off in each of the rooms, leaving each of the kids in complete darkness.

Darkness.
Yes, yesyesyes...Darkness. As long as scary music didn't play, it was fine. I could feel Naru against my side, comforting me.

A feared silence entered in the darkness. I wandered knowing there was a wall, and sat down against the wall in silence.
