The boulder was definitely real, and this area was apparently a forest. The desert wasn't visible yet, but the temperature was definitely a bit higher here.
The bushes rumbled, and four thieves jumped out, scimitars and bandanas galore. They were quiet, they clearly had experience in doing whatever they were doing.

"We have to stand out here regardless of the conditions, so it's bothersome that rain is so common by this cliff."
The gate finally opened all the way.
