The garden was empty except for us now. "Ellena, I've apologized again and again, it was a mistake, a big one, and I regret it every day," he pleaded and I looked at him from the corner of my eye. "You slept," I turned to face him. "With my maid!" I poked him in the chest. "And then you had the audacity to tell my father that I was making up lies to try and get out of an arranged marriage." I pinched the bridge of my nose. "And of course, my father's star pupil, Michael Whitaker was to be believed over his own daughter. He sent me on that suicide mission because of that," I hissed. "He wanted me to NOT come back. The girls would be too young and fragile to name as heirs, he sent me away so you could be successor Michael!" I took a heavy breath. "Because you told him that I was a liar, that I had some secret romance going on, not you! Ever the lap dog for my father Michael. No amount of apology will ever get me to love you again," I met his eyes as he stared helplessly at me.

"I won't do that, but I'll leave you be.." He pulled me into a tight hug that I tried to wrestle my way out of but his grip only tightened. "Just wait." He promised as he planted a kiss on my forehead. He released me and I stumbled backwards, rubbing my forehead. He bowed and retreated with a small "I love you." I responded with a rather forceful "I hate you."

"Is there a particular reason you're sulking in the rain? He didn't hurt you, did he?" I had to make a wide swing assumption to throw off the idea that I was ever there, if that idea was even a suggestion to her.

I never was good with women, but royalty of a different species seems too far fetched for a simple mercenary, to the point where I don't feel frightened about speaking to a woman.
