It is a period of Galactic Cival War. The Evil Galactic empire and the NObel Rebellion alliance are fighting at a stand still.
The Empire Lead publicly by Darth Vader, but secretly by Emperor Palpatine, craves peace through order, even if it means some forms of tyrany. Created by Palpatine after a failed attack by Jedi Knights, it is the domanate presence in the galaxy (and my personal favorite Star Wars Faction)
The Alliance (Or Rebellion) is lead secretly by a number of people, these people have decided not to tolerate the tyrany of the Empire. They have tolerated looking like Terrorists to the public but as long as they can restore freedom to the galaxy they do not care.
